Regenerating damaged ecosystems

You can take part in groups who are fixing the damage already done to ecosystem.

restoration and protection

There are many ways that vital ecosystems have been damaged all around the world.

In some cases forests have been cut down, in other cases pollution as killed plants and animals in rivers, lakes, and wetlands.

Climate change has caused worsening ocean heat waves have harmed coral reefs. While ocean temperate increases have devastated sea grass, mangroves, and kelp forests - which are homes to many species but also take carbon from the atmosphere

While reducing our own carbon emissions and influencing industry and government to change is important, we can also help to restore damaged ecosystems as well. Some of the the ways you can help:

  • Plant trees on your own property or volunteer with local groups to help restore areas. The photo on the left is me planting a tree seedling by a river with a local conservation group. Planting a diverse range of trees and other vegetation that are native to the local area will help reduce climate change and help local wildlife: "plant the right tree, in the right place, for the right reasons".

Another good thing about planting trees and other acts of regeneration is that you meet wonderful people.
